Rhodes Ranch Golf Club
Golf Course designer Ted Robinson once made a comment that the best group of par threes he's ever done was at Rhodes Ranch Golf Club in Las Vegas. Certainly, Rhodes Ranch is known for its series of difficult par three holes. The General Manager at the course, Tom Vold, says concerning the par threes, "I'd put our par threes up against anybody at any facility. There are great par fours, but you can birdie them. There are great par fives, but you can birdie them. But if you can get par or better on any of our par threes, you've really done your business out here. It doesn't matter what level of player you are- if you walk off the course having played the par threes well, you know you've played the golf course."
The signature hole at Rhodes Ranch Golf Club is the par three number three. While aesthetically beautiful with a waterfall that runs into a lake on the right, it is very challenging and intimidating off the tee. Number 16 and 14 are also extremely challenging, but if you play the proper tee, you will have success. Hole eighteen, the par four finishing hole, requires a very good second shot. "That's what golf should be. The designer should give you an opportunity to miss it a little bit off your tee shot, so you still have an opportunity, but if you're not dead-on with your second shot, you should be penalized a little bit. And nowhere is that more evident than on number eighteen," Vold says.
During the summer of 2006, Rhodes Ranch Golf Club resurfaced all the greens with Tiff Dwarf Bermuda. This premium surface will aid the golf course in several ways, according to Vold . "It will solidify having a very, very good putting surface for eight to ten years. It is a much more drought-tolerant grass which makes us more civic minded, and it will withstand any treatments to rid it of weeds and disease. It's just a much better grass for this type of environment." In addition to the greens, renovations to bunkers and cart paths have been made.

Par-3 holes are some of the most dramatic holes in championship golf. Although these holes are usually the shortest on the golf course, they can play the hardest of any hole. Take, for example, the 12th hole at Augusta National. Each year at the Masters tournament, this hole has sent many a player's score to a watery grave.
In Las Vegas we have some equally dramatic par-3s that can either make or break a round of golf. [ read more ]
Over the past year Rhodes Ranch Golf Club in Las Vegas has been experiencing some difficult times with their greens. Coming out of overseeding in 2006, they had to completely replace the greens twice.. During the summer months the golf course was completely shut down in order to change the greens and hopefully give them a chance to survive.
Recently I had the opportunity to play this Las Vegas golf course after it had gone through the overseeding process again in 2007. [ read more ]
Coming to Las Vegas soon?
Here's the scoop on some of what's going on in July at some of the golf courses here in Las Vegas. Las Vegas National Golf Club is going to be punching their greens starting on Monday, July 9th. I recommend that you stay away from there for at least three weeks so the greens can recover. The Arroyo Course at Red Rock Country Club will be aerating their greens on June 25th. [ read more ]

Rio Secco and Cascata were both great, though the group agrees that each course might have been marginally more lush last year. Still, both in great shape and a treat to play either. Primm Lakes, in the four holes we got to play, was not in good shape. The greens were ok but the fairways were hardpan in many spots. Real disappointing for me as I love that course but you were right. Rhodes Ranch received very favorable reviews from everyone - amazingly enough the group felt that it was the best-conditioned course of the four we played. Certainly not a Rio or Cascata in layout or difficulty, but we appreciated a less-severe test on our last day and the course was in great shape. Greens not as fast as the other courses but perfect condition and rolled true - love to play there again. They even gave each of us a free lunch ticket and two beverage tickets for after the round - nice touch.
...hodes Ranch was like best by all players. Silverstone came in second and Badland was least liked. Think the weather had something to do with that (wind & cold), but the course was a bit too tough. Folks at all three courses extremely considerate. So, thanks for the accommodations, everything went smoothly. Will give you a buzz if/when we do this again next year...probably a little earlier (mid-late October).
The arrangements you made for our hotel and golfing were flawless. The were no issues with anything that was prepaid through Golf Adventures and we will use you for our next trip to Las Vegas and will highly recommend your services. A quick review of the golf courses you selected for my wife and I to play:
Highland Falls:
Nice course layout...They get the best breakfast award of all 4 courses by far (we ate breakfast at all 4).
Boulder Creek:
Nice course layout...very playable for the average golfer...excellent staff.
Tuscany Golf Club:
By far one the of finest courses I have ever played anywhere! The course was in magnificent condition and manicured to perfection.
I can't recommend this course enough. Only downside was no full breakfast...only breakfast sandwiches.
Rhodes Ranch:
Would not recommend this course at all. It was in a condition that I might expect at a very mediocre muni type of course. Started watering a green just as we were teeing off. Noisy equipment aerating right along side of us and not stopping when we were hitting...etc..etc. We rented clubs at all 4 courses and the rental clubs here were in very poor condition. The clubhouse was quite impressive but that's the best I can say about it...will not play there again.
Thank you for arranging a great vacation week!
Thanks again for all of your help in putting together our weekend in Las Vegas! I'm glad that we had the chance to meet on Saturday.
Everyone enjoyed the combination of great golf courses, great dinners, and of course the casinos. Fortunately we are all too old to get into the other kind of trouble that could very easily happen had we done this trip 10 or more years ago.
You were right about Wolf Creek: totally unique, incredibly different, like nothing we had ever experienced, and a course that you only would play once. But we really enjoyed it and the staff there was terrific.
Paiute: everybody really liked the two courses; true desert golf, a great layout, incredibly fast greens (most of us loved), and the people were very accommodating.
Rhodes Ranch: plus-close location to the strip, easy course to finish up on, nice layout; minuses-definitely a level down from where we had been (thinly sodded fairways, very sandy greens, etc)
Everyone agreed that they would do the trip again but probably not annually. Hopefully we can become an "every-other-year" client!
Again, you outdid yourself. We had a great time at the golf courses. The extra 2 days that you booked for us was greatly appreciated. The guys really loved Rhodes Ranch.
Thanks again to you and Las Vegas Golf Adventure for making our trip go smoothly and very enjoyable.
Sorry that I had to bug you on your day "off", but again, you were there for us.
We will be telling all of our Canadian friends to use Las Vegas Golf Adventure to book any golfing when they are going on vacation.
Thank you very much.
Thank you for your help setting up our golf trip. It was a great experience with very strong positive feedback from everyone who went. The courses were great, Rhodes Ranch is a nice little unknown gem that was a great way to start the trip. Revere is challenging and Badlands was in incredible condition. A great set of courses.
The staffs at all the courses were great to deal with but one group I'd like to call out is the cart staff at Badlands. They were professional, courteous and attentive dealing with our luggage, travel bags and helping us get things loaded back on the shuttle. It made a hectic situation go very smoothly. Please pass on our thanks to your contacts there.
Thanks again for your efforts and I plan on working with you in the future.
Thank you. This was no hassle trip, tee times were great. Aliante was not in great shape, but OK. The other 3 were great courses and in great shape (Badlands, Revere at Anthem Lexington & Rhodes Ranch) We will do it again next year, in fact some might do a short trip in the fall. Keep the emails coming.
Thanks again and it was nice meeting you also,
We enjoyed each of the golf courses; all were in great shape and the service was good all around. I'm glad you stopped out at Rhodes Ranch; after all the e-mails and phone conversations it was great to put a face with the voice. And you were right on with your recommendations for the T-Mates and Sapphires; had an especially great time at both!
Luckily the weather held out for us as well. In about 15 trips to Vegas, I've never seen it rain before Saturday night, but it least it did hold out long enough for us to get our last round in. It's actually 60 and sunny here today!
Anyway, thanks again! We're already looking forward to next year's trip - it will be our tenth - Vegas Golf Trip!
JR, had a great golf trip and a great time, thanks for your help in getting this thing set up. Would like to look at doing this every couple of years and I will certainly get back with you guys when the time comes. Siena Golf Club was a great golf course, Rhodes Ranch Golf Club was just a slight notch below Siena Golf Club. Alladin was perfect for our group.
I was just thinking about sending you an email. I was a little foggy on Monday. We all stayed up to the wee hours on Sat. night and caught early bird flights back to Atlanta. Golf was great. Absolutely great. As you know, the weather was terrific and the golf courses were just right. I was also very pleased with the way each golf course handled our golf group. Particularly Red Rock Country Club. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating and made us feel right at home. They were all ready for us and we had no issues getting off. The fivesome at the front worked just fine. All three days that group beat the clock for their round, no problem.
Next year we want to think about Siena Golf Club, Rhodes Ranch Golf Club and Red Rock Country Club. Work your magic and get us the same price for those three golf courses and you've got my business next year. (December 1,2,3)
Thanks a lot for taking care of us. Worked out really well.
Regards,
